Lead Laboratory Technician Duties

1. Operational Oversight

  • Supervise daily laboratory operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with protocols.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure timely ordering of supplies and reagents by submitting to the Practice Manager.
  • Schedule and coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor laboratory cleanliness and ensure adherence to safety standards.
2. Quality Control and Compliance

  • Enforce adherence to laboratory safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP, OSHA).
  • Oversee quality control and assurance programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Maintain documentation and logs for audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
3. Technical Support

  • Provide guidance and technical support to lab staff on procedures, troubleshooting, and instrumentation.
  • Assist in validating and implementing new tests or equipment.
  • Review test results, troubleshoot discrepancies, and escalate issues as needed.
4. Training and Development (Non-HR)

  • Oversee technical training for laboratory staff on new equipment, safety practices, and updated procedures.
  • Evaluate and verify staff competency on laboratory processes and equipment.
5. Communication and Coordination

  • Act as the liaison between the laboratory and other departments or vendors regarding workflow, test availability, and technical inquiries.
  • Attend and contribute to operational and departmental meetings.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with clinicians and other staff regarding lab operations.
6. Documentation and Reporting

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required records, logs, and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of operational reports for management as requested.
